Bacteria spurned by self-absorbed cells
Article Abstract:
Three studies outlined strategies by which infected host cells use autophagy to combat pathogens and examine how pathogens manage to resist the autophagic machinery. The work provides implications for the development of vaccines against pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Streptococcus pyogenes and Shigella flexneri.

[CD8.sup.+] T lymphocytes protective against malaria liver stages are primed in skin-draining lymph nodes
Article Abstract:
Research has shown that dendritic cells in cutaneous lymph nodes prime the first cohort of [CD8.sup.+] T cells after an infectious mosquito bite. An unexpected dichotomy is observed in the tissue restriction of host responses during the development and execution of protective immunity to Plasmodium.

Original antigenic sin and apoptosis in the pathogenesis of dengue hemorrhagic fever
Article Abstract:
The growing threat of Dengue virus to public health in developing world is discussed. This virus is profoundly found in Thai children affecting the T-cell responses. Profound activation of T-cell and death may contribute to systematic disturbances that lead to dengue hemorrhage fever.
